The Butterfly Trail

This early in Spring the sun is not that strong. Temperatures are okay, but butterflies need a little more warmth. That's why they sit down on the pavement. The tiles absorb the warmth and the butterflies enjoy both the warmth of the tiles and, by spreading their wings, the warmth of the early sun.

I see a lot of those butterflies early in the morning, when I'm walking the dog. And when I walk there all alone, my thoughts run away. That's how an ultra-short story naturally comes into being. Beauty with a nasty bite.

Epilogue
Okay, this is proof that I am getting pretty old. This story partly came about because I had to think of a song by the Dutch singer Boudewijn de Groot. Written in 1966 (ouch I was only 3 by then). The song is called "Verdronken vlinder", literally Drowned Butterfly. He also sang it in English, under the title "Beautiful Butterfly". In fact, a tribute to beauty and transience. Or (we all know it) Carpe Diem...
